Cheshire Democratic Town Committee selects its candidates for the fall at its nominating caucus

For politicians in Cheshire, the local election cycle that kicked off on Tuesday with nominating caucuses in town is a challenging and exciting time for candidates. Lyrics from the late pop singer Andy Williams probably described it best when he sang "it's the most wonderful time of the year."
The Cheshire Democratic Town Committee selected its slate of candidates for the upcoming local elections on Tuesday at its nominating caucus at the Cheshire Senior Center.
CDTC Chairperson Judy Villa is excited about the upcoming campaign season with a strong combination of Democrat incumbents, former elected officials and enthusiastic new politicians expected to make a solid run for political office in Cheshire this fall.
“The Democratic slate has a strong representation of the community,” Villa said. “We are nominating and endorsing incumbents with broad experience and newcomers anxious to serve and improve the quality of life in Cheshire.
“We have an invigorated team that will work hard to listen to voters’ concerns and bring forward ideas that address our most pressing concerns; several of our candidates are deeply involved with economic development and the ten-year plan of development for Cheshire.”
The strong slate of candidates include Town Council incumbents Patti Flynn-Harris (at-large), Michael Ecke (District 1 candidate), Peter Talbot (District 4) and Jeffrey Falk (District 3). Former Town Councilors Ron Gagliardi and Jim McKenney are Town Council at-large candidates. Other candidates with strong backgrounds are Derek Gromko (District 2) and first-time at-large candidates Kim Cangiano and Jim Jinks.
“It’s an honor to have been nominated by the CDTC to run for our Town Council,” Cangiano said. “I am looking forward to the campaign ahead because it will provide me with the opportunity to hear the concerns and ideas of our residents.
“My nomination creates, then, potential for our Town Council to have a more diverse representation of our community. The future can look very bright for our wonderful town and I am committed to the work it takes to create that future.”
Town Council candidates plan a “Listening Tour” for the campaign and have created their own Facebook page “Cheshire Listens” to connect and interact with Cheshire residents. The CDTC also created its first online donation form for anyone who wants to support the Democrat candidates. Among the top issues for Town Council candidates are economic development and schools.
“I believe voters will be impressed by the candidates’ openness to problem-solving and collaboration with all elected officials,” Villa said. “My role as chairperson is to make sure that CDTC supports our candidates with a well-planned ‘boots on the ground’ campaign.”
Other Cheshire Democrats nominated are Kathryn Fabiani who seeks re-election for the Board of Education. John Kadaras, Louis Todisco and John Weinstein are Planning and Zoning candidates and Matt Bowman and R.J. Anderson are candidates for Planning and Zoning alternates. Agnes White and Jeremy Beitel are Zoning Board of Appeals candidates and Gerry Devine and Drew Harris are ZBA alternate candidates. Jack Lyons and Jo-Ann Vitarelli are Constable candidates.
