The Cheshire, Connecticut Democratic Town Committee

The Cheshire Democratic Town Committee strives to build a better Cheshire by assisting local Democrats who want to run for office, serve as appointed town Board and Commission members, or work on campaigns for town, state, and federal candidates. We believe in preparing for a better future through careful planning and hard work. We are committed to the continued growth of Cheshire as one of the best places in the country to live, work and raise a family. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Cheshire Senior Center unless conditions warrant a virtual meeting. All registered Democrats are welcome to attend. Meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday of the month. Our next meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Cheshire Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave. All registered Democrats are welcome to attend.

Primary Day is Tuesday, August 11!

The Democratic primary is Tuesday, August 11. Your vote matters – especially in primaries where races can be decided by just a few votes!

Candidates:
Governor: There is a statewide primary for Governor in all cities and towns. Governor Ned Lamont and State Rep. Josh Elliott are on the ballot.

State Senate District 13: Cheshire’s Jim Jinks is facing Meriden’s Jack Fazzino. District 13 includes Meriden and parts of Cheshire, Middletown, and Middlefield.

Early Voting: August 3-9
Early voting takes place ONLY at Cheshire Town Hall.
Early voting hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Extended hours on Aug. 4 and Aug. 6 are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Primary Day: Tuesday, August 11
Polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

NOTE: If you normally vote at Norton School (District 4), be aware that voting will be temporarily relocated for the 2026 elections due to construction at the school. For the primary on Aug. 11 and the general election on Nov. 3, voting will take place at:

Absentee Ballots
CT voters no longer need an excuse to vote using an absentee ballot. To request an absentee ballot, simply apply on the online portal or print out the application available on the Secretary of the State’s website, and mail it to:

Ballots will be mailed one month before the election. Please be sure to return your ballot as quickly as possible to ensure a timely delivery.

REMEMBER: you must be registered as a Democrat to vote in a Democratic primary in Connecticut!

Jim Jinks for State Senate

Jim is running to represent Cheshire, Meriden, Middlefield and Middletown in the 13th State Senate District and be the first Cheshire resident to hold the seat. He's running to ensure our public schools are funded every year, property taxes are cut for everyone and to fight Trumpism every day. 'I'm a public servant, not a career-politician,' Jim says. 'As our State Senator I'll be 100% focused on delivering for and serving the people of the district. My ambition is to get stuff done. I won't be distracted by career or party or special interests. Our state is far too expensive. We have to lower costs and we have to do it now.'

For the past 25 years Jim has held leadership positions in Connecticut-based advertising and marketing companies, including operating his own direct marketing business. Jim is currently a Vice President at Mediabids, a leading direct response ad agency.

First elected to the Cheshire Town Council in 2019, Jim was re-elected in 2021, 2023 and 2025. For the past three years Jim has served as Vice Chairperson on the Council. He has also served as the Chairperson for the Budget Committee and the Sustainability Committee and also previously served on the School Modernization Committee.

In 2018 Jim founded Bike Cheshire, an award-winning community nonprofit devoted to improving bike and pedestrian safety in Cheshire. Bike Cheshire operated a popular community bike share, organized Bike to School Days, group rides, bike safety classes for Cheshire elementary schools and advocated for the mountain bike trails currently being built at Yankee Highlands in Cheshire. Jim is also one of the founders of the Coalition for a Sustainable Cheshire and worked on the Chesprocott turn-around as a board member.

For years Jim has been active in our community in several other capacities, volunteering his time on the Cheshire Youth Services Committee, the Cheshire Planning & Zoning Commission, and was the Vice Chairperson of the Cheshire Democratic Town Committee.

He has lived in Cheshire (and the 13th State Senate District) for thirteen years with his wife Marie, their four kids and their dog Claudia Jean ‘CJ.’ Jim has an undergraduate degree in history from UConn, and a master’s in public policy from Trinity College.
