Chairperson Cheshire Democratic Town Committee
Thumbs up: the increase in voter registration in town reflecting the importance of this midterm
Thumbs down: the fear and divisiveness underlying many nationwide rallies and speeches
Thumbs up: the superior moral courage and leadership from Senator Chris Murphy who speaks truth to power from his heart and his experience, rallying us to preserve our nation
Thumbs down: the desperate and ridiculous claim from Murphy’s opponent that the Senator’s moving his family to D.C. proves he has no vested interest in Connecticut—hogwash!
Thumbs up: outstanding candidates stepping forward to represent Cheshire and surrounding districts in the General Assembly:Abrams, Fontaine, Harrigan, Linehan, and Nardello
Thumbs down: Republicans painting Democratic candidates running for General Assembly as unthinking Malloy followers without recognition of platforms and skills to govern
Thumbs up: 5th Congressional candidate Jahana Hayes’ honesty and commitment to values sorely needed in Washington; she inspires everyone to work for the common good
Thumbs down: pitting the cities against the suburbs in our state
Thumbs up: Cheshire candidates working thousands of hours to reach voters in door-knocking
Thumbs down: diminishing effectiveness of phone banking despite the need to encourage turnout and help voters distinguish the many offices and issues
Thumbs up: Democratic candidates for Constitutional offices promoting tax fairness, increasing health care access, protecting women’s rights and LBGTQ rights, supporting quality education, reducing college debt, holding the line on gun reforms, protecting the environment, fighting for a minimum wage, and building business partnerships that grow our state economy
Thumbs down: Republican candidates for Constitutional offices parroting White House agendas of failed trickle-down economics, small government that decreases services for low-income families, neglects the working poor, demonizes unions, and devises tax “reductions” that reward the wealthy while co-opting states’ rights by expanding federal government’s reach to curtail human rights such as reproductive rights and the RIGHT to health care. The failure to respect the contract between the those governing and those governed is a deep concern.
Thumbs up: all who seek to protect the environment and rely on science to oppose deregulations that threaten our air, land, and water
Thumbs down: climate change deniers who refuse to believe in man’s role in damaging the Environment; in 2040 will our coastlines be under water?
Thumbs up: to our fabulous CHS Young Democrats who work every day after school and on weekends canvassing and calling for candidates in whom they believe; their civic engagement is awesome
Thumbs down: anyone who discourages young people from defending their future
Thumbs up: all the hard work by CDTC and CDWC members and newcomers to volunteerism who joined campaigns because they feel it is crucial to do so this year; (a special shout- out to our Communications team and Campaign Chair, who gave amazing efforts)
Thumbs down: cruelty and lack of accountability in social media
Thumbs up: quote attributed to Churchill: “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all
the others.” Protect democracy! Exercise your right and duty to vote!
