Rep. Fritz, a longtime fan and supporter of the women’s basketball program, will be standing in for House Speaker Brendan Sharkey (D-Hamden) who asked Rep. Fritz to represent him and accompany the team.
“I am really pleased to be accompanying the UConn women’s team to the White House and thank Speaker Sharkey for this honor,” Rep. Fritz said. “In addition to being great players and national champions for the eighth time, these women student athletes and their coaches are outstanding representatives of our state. They deserve this honor.”
Rep. Fritz noted that this will be the third time UConn’s team will be welcomed to the White House by President Barack Obama. UConn teams attended earlier receptions in past years with President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush.
Rep. Fritz, a veteran legislator, was first elected to the General Assembly in 1982, representing the 90th Assembly District, which includes Cheshire and Wallingford.
