MIDDLETOWN >> On Oct. 23, a variety of soups will be served by a community volunteers at St. Francis of Assisi Church with proceeds benefiting the city’s soup kitchen.
Each year, area restaurants and churches cook up their best soups and donate the soup to the soup supper, raising money for the Amazing Grace Food Pantry.
In all, 12 varieties of soup will be served — from Mexican meatball to butternut squash to chicken gumbo and South Fire District firehouse chili.
There is no set fee, but donations are welcome. The thank you dinner has become one of the major fundraisers for Amazing Grace enjoyed by hundreds of supporters.
The event, at the Monsignor M. Davitt Fox Parish Center at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Elm Street, runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and includes bread also donated by area restaurants.
Many volunteers scoop soup, cut bread, clean tables, wash dishes and help out for several hours.
Amazing Grace is a program of Saint Vincent dePaul and serves about 1,000 families per month at their Stack Street Middletown location.
